History

Four families have owned our farm over the years. Fruit orchards were the predominant crop across the years.

Our farm was the original Herkelrath family homestead back in the 1880's. Many of those descendants still reside nearby.

The Hoffeld family farmed the property between 1940-1979 while Greg and Karen Miller farmed the property from 1980-2011.

Our family purchased the farm itself from Greg Miller in 2011. As Greg neared retirement, we then bought additional land from him in December 2018 which brought onboard the various fruit trees, blueberries and strawberries.

If you look at the satellite view from google maps, you will be able to see where the crops are grown. Currently, we grow the following crops:

• Asparagus May-early June
• Strawberries June
• Raspberries July-Early August
• Blueberries July
• Sweet Cherries (several varieties) July-August
• Apricots July
• Plums (several varieties) July-August
• Peaches (several varieties) August-September

The majority of the credit for originally planting these crops goes to Greg Miller. Greg's advisory and hand-on expertise is still appreciated today, although he keeps threatening to retire! Without his valuable mentorship, Pierport Orchards would not be able to offer the wide variety of fruit we have today.
